ABOUT THE ARTIST
It’s CARV’d is the work of stone carver and trained graphic designer Andra Roig, Jr. His connection to stone began in college, where a typography class introduced him to the centuries-old craft of hand-cutting letters into slate. 20 years later, after returning to carving, that same chisel and mallet become the foundation for It’s CARV’d, founded in Orange County, New York in 2020.

Every piece is designed and carved by hand using traditional chisels and a hammer, never machinery. From headstones, personal memorials, and pet memorials to family stones, lettering, and original artwork, Andra brings a graphic designer’s eye for typography, composition, and detail to every project.

As one of the few African American stone artisans practicing traditional stone carving and letter cutting in the United States, he is also committed to helping preserve the craft for the next generation.
